We spend one third of our lives asleep and yet pay little attention to this area of our health. By the age of 90, you would have slept (or not!) for 30 years!!
Research shows that insufficient sleep duration is linked with 7 of the 12 main causes of death including Alzheimer's disease, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, accidents and mental health illness.

For example, obstructive sleep apnoea ( a condition that causes symptoms of excessive snoring and daytime tiredness) has negative health implications, is as common as asthma, and is easily treated,
but widely unrecognised due to reduced awareness.
In children, sleep deprivation is linked to poor concentration, poor academic progress and hyperactivity , symptoms which can be mistaken for neurological disorders.
On a wider scale , disasters such as the meltdown of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor were caused by sleep deprivation, teaching us that a loss of sleep does not just have a negative impact on an individual , but whole communities.

WyeSleep can support clients on a 1:1 basis with a wide range of sleep issues from insomnia, excessive snoring, jet lag
or sleep-disturbed children for example.
Clients range from the age of one year to older adult.
Following a comprehensive sleep assessment, a bespoke sleep plan is designed to address the issues, aiming to improve the clients sleep.
WyeSleep can offer group sessions which will explore the importance of sleep for good physical and mental health.
This session also gives delegates strategies to improve their own sleep habits.
A consultancy service is available for companies to help their employees understand the importance of sleep in maintaining good health and productivity.

Sleep deprivation can be the cause of workplace accidents, low productivity and an increase in work related errors.
During this initial appointment ,a full history of the sleep difficulty is taken ,to gather an understanding of possible causes of the problem.
We will then work together to formulate a bespoke plan to ensure we meet the client's needs.
In the same way as exercise can take time to see results, changing a sleep pattern may involve a change in routine or habit, but as the plan is evidence based, the results can be very rewarding with a little perseverance!
WyeSleep does not encourage the use of benzodiazepines or Z-drugs to aid sleep initiation and as such, will not issue prescriptions for these medications.
